INTRO
The RPM 5 has a more rugged and masculine look and feel to it, with a satin-finished metal body and textured rubber wrap, and it has been rounded off around the corners, making it feel more comfortable to use. As much as I loved the 4, it wasn’t the most comfortable, so the ergonomics are the first improvements to the 5.
Another ergonomic improvement is the concave fire button, which is more tactile and easy to find during use; the adjustment buttons are less so, but they are out of the way in your grip. Both buttons are firm and clicky, with no wobble or rattle; the adjustment buttons are on a rocker and feel very responsive.

DESIGN
The material of the main shell is not specified, but it is a matte finish metal with lovely rounded edges. The Grey version has a Gunmetal metal finish, while the Beige version has a Black metal finish. This metal area can be found on the top and bottom of the mod, as well as a panel running down the back of the mod. The rest of the mod has a padded leather finish that is comfortable to hold. The Beige version is standard leather, while the Grey version has a suede finish. The front of the mod features a Smok logo, and the back features the model logo in a shiny Silver finish. Both devices have the required legal logos on the bottom. The RPM 5 base also has a rubber edge so it doesn’t clunk when placed on a hard surface!
Next up was the fugly pod, which was quite interesting and, despite its appearance, was an improvement over the RPM 4. The sliding top-fill is my favourite feature because it is so well executed. The coils are a simple press fit, as with previous RPM pods, but there is a locking lever on the RPM 5 pod, which prevents accidental coil removal and a sloshy mess of e-liquid.
It’s very simple to use; simply open the lever, insert your coil (making sure the flats align with the magnets), and close the lever; if the lever doesn’t close, you haven’t fitted your coil correctly. You can’t physically pull the coil out once it’s closed.
PROS
- Excellent vape quality from both coils
- Lightweight and ergonomic
- Decent 2000mAh battery
- Detailed charging screen
- Rubber base
- Well implemented top-fill

PERFORMANCE
I got to 185 on the puff counter at 33 Watts with the RPM 5 and 0.23Ohm coil before having to recharge the mod, which took about 2 hours to fully charge. This coil has a good flavour and produces a lot of saturated clouds. In my opinion, using the 0.15ohm coil on the RPM 5 Pro at 80 watts produces a warmer, denser vape with slightly better flavour. The lifespan of your battery is determined by the quality of your cell. Coil longevity I got 800 puffs out of each coil and they’re still going strong… The 0.23Ohm coil has been gradually leaking since around the 4-fill and continues to do so.
