DESIGN

A clear outer layer covers the coloured interior design on the VooPoo Doric Q’s double-injected polycarbonate battery part. The only tactile feedback you have is the exposed USB-C charging point around the back, just below the tiny air inlet, which is located in the coloured section and has raised vertical lines running from top to bottom with a bold VooPoo logo and an LED indicator on the front. However, this is all covered by the smooth, clear outer shell. Although it has the extra benefit of keeping my fingertips away from the air inlet, I’ve discovered that the location of the USB port is the ideal place for me to lay my finger or thumb while using it.

I’ve had no trouble propping this up on a desk because the base is nice and flat and has three emergency vent holes for the battery. Pods snap into place when pressed into the top of the battery area, and behind this are two tiny spring-loaded connections and the auto-draw sensor.

 

POD

The pod is screwed in, not magnetically attached or press fit like every other pod system I’ve evaluated. The pod simply needs to be rotated until it clicks into place; it doesn’t need to be tightened until it is snug. It sounds a little odd, but it works flawlessly. A rubber tab that is simple to remove and secure is used to fill the side of the 2ml, slightly coloured pod. The mouthpiece on the pod is shaped like an MTL drip tip, which I found odd and really enjoyed about it. It’s also really comfortable, especially if you’re used to rebuildable with a 510 drip-tip.

 

PERFORMANCE

First off, this is not what I would classify as MTL. Yes, the airflow is restricted, but the mouthpiece is too large to allow for the tight MTL draw that you get with a device like the Argus P1. You can still get an MTL hit from it, but it is much better suited to highly restricted DL. The 1.0ohm pod’s flavour is passable, and for such a high resistance coil, it produces more vapour than I had anticipated. It’s an odd analogy, but it made me think of the Holic RDA or the Galaxies RDTA, which have tiny Clapton and provide a lovely, flavorful, (very) restricted DL vape rather than a true MTL.

 

COIL

Because the Doric Q is compatible with three different tanks or pods, this is where things start to get a little odd. ITO Pod Cartridge: I’ve only seen it available for pre-order with the 1.0 and 1.2-ohm coils so far; this is the 2 ml fixed coil pod that comes with the Doric Q. The Doric Q only supports resistance starting at 0.6 ohms, ruling out the 0.5-ohm coil. ITO Pod is a removable 2 ml pod that is compatible with Voopoo’s ITO 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, and 1.2-ohm coils. The identical coils that work with the 3.5ml detachable ITO-X pod are described above. Additionally, it resembles a tank far more than a pod, which is always a plus.

CONCLUSION

I adore the VooPoo Doric Q’s colourful, bold appearance; the device I was supplied for review’s canary yellow finish is especially striking. The pod has provided fantastic flavour and had respectable longevity; when combined with the anticipated low price point, this could be a great option for a pocket-friendly portable vape. It is also incredibly pocketable due to its compact size and 40-gramme weight.
